Buffett, a beloved figure who hailed from and cherished the Gulf coast, left an indelible mark on the world with his iconic tunes like “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”
Beyond his musical talents, Buffett established a vast empire, encompassing restaurants, hotels, merchandise, timeshares, and even ventures into the world of cannabis products, all unified under the Margaritaville brand. Notably, Buffett’s legacy also extends into the realm of conservation, as he was instrumental in founding the Save the Manatee Committee and the Adopt a Manatee programs during the 1980s.
In a fitting tribute, Governor DeSantis has directed that flags be flown at half-staff at significant locations, including the Monroe County Courthouse, Key West City Hall, and the State Capitol in Tallahassee. This gesture, observed from 5 p.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Friday, pays homage to Buffett’s enduring legacy and the timeless sentiment that “it’s always five o’clock somewhere.”
