And here are some results from a new survey in honor of today . . .

1.  71% of people listen to their radio in the car.

2.  Two out of three people listen to the radio every day.

3.  56% of women and 35% of men sing along to the radio.

4.  59% of women and 76% of men are listening when we say “don’t touch that dial” . . . and they stay on a station during the commercials.

5.  And finally, almost 9% of people say radio stations don’t play enough commercials and should have more.

It Happened On This day In Country Music History

1944 Happy Birthday Eddy Raven born on this day in Lafayette, Louisiana.  Known for his Cajun-influenced country music. He has charted more than thirty-five singles in his career, including the #1 hit “I Got Mexico”as well as several more #1 and Top Ten hits, including seventeen consecutive Top Tens between 1984 and 1990.

 

1966 Happy Birthday Lee Ann Womack born on this day in Jacksonville, Texas. Her 2000 single, “I Hope You Dance” was a major crossover music hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Country Chart and the Top 15 of the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her signature song.

1969 Happy Birthday Clay Walker born on this day in Beaumont, Texas, was.  His 1993 debut single “What’s It to You,” reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts, as did its follow-up, 1994’s “Live Until I Die.” Both singles were included on Walker’s self-titled debut album, also released in 1993.

1977 Happy Birthday Aaron Watson born on this day in in Amarillo, Texas. In February 2015, Watson made history when he released The Underdog making him the first solo male artist to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart with a self-released and independently distributed and promoted album and a #1 chart topping song “Outta Style”

2006 Keith Urban’s “Once in a Lifetime” became the highest-ever debuting song on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart during the Broadcast Data Systems-era, ranking at #17 in its first week.

Country Music Fun Fact

In 2012, Taylor Swift pledged $4 million to fund the building of a new education center at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Museum officials have named it The Taylor Swift Education Center.
