Music’s biggest night suffered a few BIG snubs, but still managed one of the most powerful performances in music history!
Kesha’s high-profile case against music producer Dr. Luke initially left her snubbed by many of her peers and the industry. Then a video emerged of the singer crying on the stand during a 2016 hearing and made the industry pay attention as well as a barrage of support from some of music’s biggest names.
Kesha’s Los Angeles lawsuit was dismissed after a judge ruled that even if the allegations were true, the five-year statute of limitations had run out.
Though she suffered a judicial setback, her case was heard around the world. Kesha is largely considered to be the spark that ignited the #MeToo movement and is the inspiration for many women who have come forward with allegations of sexual misconduct.
And so it was time for Kesha’s triumphant return to the awards show. She was joined on stage by Cyndi Lauper, Rihanna, Camilla Cabello, Bebe Rexha, Julia Michaels, Andra Day and the Resistance Revival Chorus who sang back up as she belted out her hit “Praying” which was written about Kesha’s experience.
The performance brought the audience to tears and left host James Corden speechless.
