Post Malone Debut’s with Morgan Wallen and Hardy for Tribute at CMA Awards

Post Malone marked his debut at the CMA Awards with a poignant performance alongside Morgan Wallen and Hardy. The trio paid homage to the late Joe Diffie, a revered figure in traditional country music, with a medley that included iconic Nineties country songs like “John Deere Green” and “Pickup Man.” Diffie passed away in 2020 at the age of 61 due to complications related to Covid-19.

The significance of the song choices extends beyond the awards ceremony, tied to Hardy’s newly released mixtape, “HIXTAPE Vol. 3: DIFFTAPE.” This collaboration among Hardy, Wallen, and Malone features updated renditions of Diffie’s classics, creating a heartfelt tribute to the late country legend.

Post Malone’s inclusion in a country awards celebration might raise eyebrows for some, but his versatility in the genre has been on full display. In recent years, the multi-talented artist has covered an array of country songs, ranging from contemporary hits like Brad Paisley’s “I’m Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin’ Song)” to timeless classics like Hank Williams’ “There’s a Tear in My Beer” and Johnny Cash’s “Cocaine Blues,” the latter performed with Billy Strings in 2022. Post Malone’s seamless integration into the country music scene adds a fresh and unexpected dynamic to the genre, reflecting the evolving landscape of musical collaboration.
