A peculiar incident unfolded in the small town of Springfield, Colorado on Saturday night, when a driver, who was pulled over for speeding, attempted a desperate maneuver to avoid arrest. According to local police, the individual in question, displaying clear signs of intoxication, tried to switch places with his loyal canine companion, who occupied the passenger seat.
The events transpired around 11:30 p.m. A law enforcement officer observed a vehicle exceeding the speed limit, clocking in at 52 mph in a designated 30-mph zone.
To the officer’s surprise, the driver promptly exited the car from the passenger side, asserting that he was not the one behind the wheel. However, the officer quickly noticed the telltale signs of inebriation exhibited by the suspect. Seeking clarity on the driver’s alcohol consumption, the officer inquired about the amount he had consumed.
In a brazen attempt to evade responsibility, the intoxicated driver made a desperate dash for freedom, fleeing from the scene. Yet, his efforts were in vain, as law enforcement personnel swiftly apprehended him within a mere 20 yards of the initial encounter.
Assistance from the Baca County Sheriff’s Office was requested to aid in the ongoing investigation. Further scrutiny of the individual’s background revealed the existence of two active warrants for his arrest from the city of Pueblo. Following a medical evaluation, the suspect was taken into custody and subsequently booked into the Baca County Jail.
The charges levied against the individual include driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, driving while ability impaired, driving with a suspended license, speeding 20-24 mph over the limit, and resisting arrest.
